Your future, your money: know your pension

Will the pension savings be enough?

Probably not on its own. In 2025/26, the full new State Pension is £11,976 a year, but experts estimate you need about £13,400 a year as a single person (or £21,600 for a couple) to cover a minimum standard of living. Most people will need extra income from workplace or personal pensions, savings, or other sources. You can check your own  state pension forecast: https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension.

Tracking your pension from previous employers?

The government plans to launch the Pensions Dashboard in late 2026, which will let you see all your pension savings in one place. Until then, you can track pensions by contacting providers or past employers, or use the free Pension Tracing Service: www.gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details.

Concerned that you have gaps in your pension contributions?

You need 35 years of National Insurance contributions for the full State Pension, and at least 10 years for a reduced amount. Gaps can be filled with voluntary contributions. Check your record here: Check your NI record: https://www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record.
